I love to share new home improvement products with you. Products that can make life easier when it comes to doing your home improvement projects, have always been my favorite. Today I am going to introduce you to five great products that will help you, the do-it-yourselfer, to do the job faster and easier and or save you money and energy.

Number 1: Rapid Coat Low Dust Joint Compound from Lafarge.

There are a few other good joint compounds out there that are easy to sand and are fast drying. But what about a joint compound that dries fast, is easy to sand and also reduces the amount of airborne dust. I know this sounds too good to be true, but it is now a reality.

Rapid Coat all purpose joint compound forms heavier dust particles during sanding for less airborne dust. As you sand, the dust falls quickly to the ground instead of hanging in the air. The result is a lot less mess and much faster clean up. Plus, by keeping the dust particles out of the air, this product is very eco-friendly.

Can it be possible that you can have a product that not just reduces slow drains but also stops blocked up sinks? Until now you were pretty much stuck with trying everyway you can to unclog your sink drain, even it meant you had to take the drain pipe and trap apart to free up the drain.

Now there is a new product from PF Waterworks called PermaFlow. This new product installs in place of your kitchen or bath sink trap and with its award winning cleaning system, it not only will save you time and money, it is also GreenSpec Listed, making in a very eco-friendly product.

Number 3: Versi-Foam EnergyStar Rated Polyurethane Foam Insulation System

versi-foam insulation systems

We know that having your home or new addition insulated to meet the EnergyStar Home Sealing EPA recommendations, means that you will get the best energy efficiency possible. When it comes to Spray Foam Insulation that meets these standards, usually you would think that it can only be applied by an insulation company using special spray equipment.

Now, there is a system that allows you to do the job yourself and meet the energy standards that will give you the best possible insulation. The new Versi-Foam do-it-yourself- Polyurethane Foam Insulation system will not only save you money, because you can apply it yourself, but also because of the energy savings you will achieve by installing this product.

For the best spray pattern, it is best to stand 18 to 24 inches away from your target. Spray a strip around the perimeter of the area you wish to cover. With a back-and-forth motion of your wrist, fill in the area from top to bottom. The faster you move your wrist, the thinner the layer of foam. The more slowly you move your wrist, the thicker the layer of foam. The foam will expand five or six times its original volume, so be careful not to apply too much in one pass. The foam will be tack free to the touch in 30 to 45 seconds.

Number 4: The Whole House Fan

We all know that the cost of energy is going up, up and up. During the winter months our gas heating bills are higher then ever and during the summer months coming up, the electric we will use to keep our homes cool, will be the same.

The average homeowner will spend from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00 or more to keep their homes cool in the summer. What if you could keep you home cool and spend as little as $300.00 for the whole season? Imagine saving up to $2,700.00 this summer and every summer. Well, you can, by getting yourself a Whole House Fan.

The whole house fan has come a long way over the years and now there are systems for larger homes that use ceiling type registers to suck the hot air out of your home, and pull cool air into your home through your existing windows. Using this system early in the morning and in the evening when it is cool outside will help to keep you home cool most of the day and thus cut down on the use of your air conditioner.

Let’s say that you have a 3000 Sq. Ft. 2 Story home and want to use a system like this to cool your home. A $1,500.00 unit like the one in the photo below would do the job.

And, here are some amazing details about this great, energy efficient and eco-friendly product. The fan has been designed to work so quite that you will hardly know it is working. This is achieved by using a special type of fan; it’s called a backward-curved impeller fan.  This fan actually looks like a giant wheel with slots in them.  As the fan spins, it scoops air and has no problems pulling large amounts of air through long tubes or ducting. Unlike a regular or axial fan, the motor in this type of fan is specifically designed to pull air through the ducting.

Your house stays cool and quiet at the same time. Plus, you get the added benefit of spending less money on your electric bills. What could be better than that? You can find out more about this type of fan and whole house fans for every size home by clicking on the following link.

Number 5: The GM-Segway PUMA

If you have not heard about this then you are probably thinking, what in the world could this be? What type of an Eco-Friendly Home Improvement Product is this? Here is my way of thinking. Anything that is in, around or associated with any part of your home can fall into the category of being Eco-Friendly.

Anything that can reduce your energy bills, save you gas, electric, maintenance or all of the above, is going to put money into your pocket, purse or wallet, depending on where you put your money.

I am sure you recognize three words in our topic, GM, as in General Motors, Segway, as in Paul Blart, Mall Cop, and PUMA, as is shoes or cats. So, what do all three of these have in common and what in the world am I talking about?

Well, General Motors and the people who make the world's coolest scooter have developed a two-wheeled, two-seat electric car that's essentially a big honkin' Segway. If you did not see the Paul Blart, Mall Cop movie, a Segway is a two wheeled, upright, one operator, “people” mover.

GM and Segway pulled the sheet off the unusual, albeit innovative, EV at the New York Auto Show, proclaiming the car of the future may have two wheels, not four. The beleaguered automaker says the concept vehicle; dubbed Project PUMA - for Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility, you see it is not a shoe or a cat, is just the thing for navigating congested cities with ease.

Perhaps the only thing wilder than the styling is the idea the cars would communicate with each other wirelessly to regulate speed, reduce congestion and prevent accidents.

PUMA uses a lithium ion battery and something GM calls "digital smart energy management" to deliver a range of 35 miles. Twin motors drive the twin wheels at up to 35 mph, and PUMA features the same balancing technology that keeps you from landing on your face while riding a Segway.

You're definitely going to beconnected to the environment in a PUMA unless GM slaps some doors on it.

PUMA is just a concept at this point, and given GM's precarious financial standing, we'd be surprised if it is anything more than a "wouldn't this be cool..." kind of project. Neither company said how much the 300-pound vehicle might cost should it see production, but according to the Associated Press they suggested the total operating cost - purchase price, insurance, maintenance and fuel - would be one-third to one-fourth the cost of an average car.

I know this was a stretch, but if you owned one of these, you would probably keep it in your garage, and plug it into a wall socked to charge and guess what? You would be saving energy and money using an all electric, eco-friendly two seater vehicle. Let’s just hope that follow through with this.
