Answer I am making a toy box that is going to double as a chair and I need to know what type of hinge to use. It is a fairly light lid that will be on a hinge and it needs to be strong enough to sit or stand on. thanks in advance
Answer

I agree, a piano hinge is probably the best choice because it maintains it's use over most of the width of the lid or top of the toy box. For example if you make the toy box 3 feet wide, you can use a 36" long piano hinge. These hinges are also easy to cut to the exact length you want simply by using a hack saw and then lightly sanding off the cut edge to reduce the sharpness from the cut.

Also, I would recommend getting a few extra longer screws then what comes with the hinge and alternate the longer screws with the original screws to help make the top more secure, especially since this is going to double as a chair. You can get these screws and your local hardware store or home center.

I hope this helps.
